Our Winter Production
Arthur Miller's - The Crucible
From the docile, Christian community of Salem in fledgling America, emerged one of the darkest chapters in the country's history. A shadow was cast over the very nature of humanity, and a wound inflicted that would echo through the ages. The innocent and the good would be condemned to the Gallows on words of spite and vengeful motives. Legs would kick helplessly against the sour air of retribution. Innocent necks would break in the name of God. In the space of one year, in one tiny town, 19 people were executed on charge of Witchcraft, sometimes for no more than being in the way. Over 250 years later, intellectual but grounded playwright Arthur Miller, was caught in the whirlwind of American capitalist paranoia and consequent finger-pointing. Gagged by silencing orders, the injustice burned within Miller and he found a parallel within his country's own history. The Salem Witch Trials.
The resulting play is one of murder, fear, anger, revenge and heroism. A fast paced production of indelible greatness, that will be realised this Winter by The Chichester Players in its hard-hitting entirety. This, surely, is not an event to be missed.
